About The Pixel Tree Project

A permanent pixel canvas where every $1 pixel plants a real tree — and every buyer owns a piece of internet history forever.

What Is The Pixel Tree Project?

The Pixel Tree Project is a 2,000×1,500 pixel canvas where anyone can buy pixels for $1 each. Every pixel you purchase is permanently yours — you upload your own image to fill the space, and it stays on the canvas forever. There is no subscription, no expiry, and no catch.

The environmental twist: every single pixel sold plants a real tree in the real world. Your digital square becomes a living thing — a tree growing somewhere on Earth, absorbing carbon, providing habitat, and contributing to the restoration of forests that the world desperately needs.

The canvas is finite. Once a pixel is sold, it is gone. As more people join, the grid fills up and becomes a permanent record of who was here in 2026 — a digital monument built by thousands of people who chose to do something good with $1.

How It Works

1

Choose your pixels

Browse the canvas and select any available pixel or block. You can buy as little as a single pixel for $1, or a large block for more visual impact.

2

Complete your purchase

Secure checkout powered by Stripe. Your pixels are reserved immediately and yours forever the moment payment goes through.

3

Upload your image

After purchase, upload any image to fill your pixel space. Your image appears on the canvas and is visible to every visitor forever.

4

A tree gets planted

Every pixel sold directly funds real-world tree planting. Your pixel — your tree.

Our Environmental Mission

Deforestation destroys millions of acres of forest every year, driving climate change, biodiversity loss, and the displacement of communities and wildlife that depend on healthy forests. At the same time, tree planting is one of the most proven and cost-effective tools for carbon sequestration and ecosystem restoration available.

Our goal is to plant 3 million trees in 2026 — one for every pixel on the canvas. At that scale, the impact is significant: thousands of tonnes of CO₂ absorbed annually, critical wildlife habitat restored, and watershed protection for communities that need it most.

We work with verified reforestation partners to ensure every pixel purchase results in a real tree planted in the ground — not a pledge, not a promise, but an actual tree in an area that needs it.

Inspired by the Million Dollar Homepage

In 2005, a student named Alex Tew sold a million pixels for $1 each on a simple webpage — and made internet history. The idea proved that people would pay for a permanent piece of shared digital real estate, and that a grid of pixels could become something far more interesting than the sum of its parts.

The Pixel Tree Project builds on that idea with a purpose. The canvas is larger, the pixels are permanent, and every transaction benefits the natural world. We believe that digital actions should have real-world meaning — and that the internet, used creatively, can be a genuine force for environmental good.
